What We Are Working On Now

Section 8 (Housing Choice) Vouchers – City Code to ensure they are accepted.
This year we will continue to advocate with the City of Golden Valley as they progress in developing legislation making it illegal for landlords in Golden Valley to exclude rental applications from people using “Housing Choice” (Sec. 8) vouchers as part of their rental payments. 		Provide information to people who receive eviction notices.
We are working with HomeLine in contacting people who have received an eviction notice. We provide information for resources available for help in making rental payments, availability of free legal advice for people who qualify, and explanations on how the court process works.
Zoning Changes to Increase Affordable Housing in Golden Valley.
Zoning is a crucial aspect of planning for affordable homes in Golden Valley. Zoning for renters at affordable rates and zoning that will allow for the development of affordable single family homes, townhomes and buildings with multiple dwellings (like a fourplex). We are emphasising the need of affordable housing for people who who are first generation homebuyers and/or members of minority populations who haven't been able to participate in the building of equity through home ownership. 		Strengthening the "ASK"-Government grants and funding for affordable housing.
In conjunction with other “housing” organizations – educate legislators on the benefits of, and advocate for:
  the need for more funding of affordable housing, with the realization that housing should be treated as infrastructure.
   increasing the number of affordable apartments in Golden Valley
   allocating funding to help preserve existing “Naturally Occurring Affordable Housing” (NOAH).


The more voices heard the more our chance of making a difference!		 Help build a network with like-minded groups to strengthen advocacy efforts in Golden Valley.
